8 it is.

We had a little family gathering this weekend to celebrate our Wrennie's 8th birthday! We've started doing her school friend party in January when it's easier to organize with people's schedules and also WAY easier to book a venue (places like bowling alleys and such are so booked up with office and holiday parties I'd need to plan this thing in June to get a spot). But we always do a little get together with our families and closest friends to celebrate the occasion.

There wasn't a theme, just our birthday girl's favourite colours and things (pink and purple, and balloons and candy respectively). Wren LOVES to bake, so half the fun of her party was that we made the cake at home together. We baked the three layers of boxed funfetti cake on Saturday and got the cake all covered in icing, then on Sunday we topped it off with a few treats in pretty colours.

Wren did most of the decorating with the candy herself, and insists we recreate the cake for all her future birthdays. She says it was her favourite thing about her party this year! Amazing how $15 in boxed cake and candy can mean the world at 8 years old, I guess the best things DON'T come from a store as our friend the Grinch likes to say.

The Birthday Girl and her balloon bouquet!

Recreating UP!, Wren style.

The day was filled with laugher, family, friends, and lots of memories I hope she will cherish forever. I can hardly believe it's been 8 years already...

Easter Break

It's been a fun and full Spring Break in our household! We had a very sugar filled Easter weekend with friends and family, and the rest of the break was spent on working on Wren's Bathroom (more on that at the end of this post) and spending time outside.

Some snapshots of Easter morning.

As I mentioned, we spent a good amount of time hammering out the final jobs in Wren's bathroom. These were taken over a week ago and we are now finished and are just have one final run to make to pick out a stepping stool for Wren and a shower curtain! I will share the final results on Thursday or Friday. But the final tally is looking good for our budget, coming in at $1500 for all the materials! The tiles and related supplies were our biggest single expense but were all super deals at Home Depot and both the wall and floor tiles were $2/foot which is insanely good!

In case you think we did a bright blue vanity, it's just a protective sheet we left on until we're totally finished to protect the glossy drawers from accidental scratches ;)

I can't wait to show you the final product!

Wren's Room

Today I'm giving you a little tour of Wren's room! Like I mentioned last week, when the house was spotless last week for our Flare shoot I took a bunch of pics of my own to update the 'Home Sweet Home' tour of our home over under the Work section of the site. I think we've had a good amount of small changes that feel like they add up to a bit of a different vibe around the house since some of those were taken.

Wren's room is one of the least shared rooms of our house, because it rarely looks this tidy. And nor should it! It's her place to be free, creative, play and have her own personal space. She loves her room, and her most frequent activity up here is playing dress up or Barbies. We let a lot of the toys come out in the rest of the house, but to keep the peace when it comes to losing a ton of little bits and pieces, we ask that the Barbies only stay in her room (they're all tossed into the TOYS bin when not being played with).

I hope you had fun in Wren's happy little space!
