Design Process
Step One
Initial Site Visit
During our first site visit we will talk about your needs, budget, timeline and I will share some of my initial ideas. I believe in working towards everything a client would like in their “dream renovation” and then eliminating some elements to match any budget constraints, so at this stage it’s important to share anything and everything you would like to achieve. I take measurements and lots of photos at this meeting so I can effectively work on the design plan from the moment I get back in the office.
Step Two
Design concept and sourcing
Once we have an idea of the direction we want to take the project I get to work sourcing out finishes or furnishings and pulling together mood boards that will give you a visual representation of how the different pieces come together to create a cohesive space. When the plans are ready we sit down for a formal design presentation where we talk through every item in every room. When possible, I present actual samples of finishes such as tile/paint/hardware and everything is priced and linked for easy ordering once the plans are approved. At this stage you can still ask to change any features or see more options for any finishes. For renovation projects I forward the mood boards and selected hard finishes to the contractor in order to confirm pricing on install and that it matches our budgets amounts prior to ordering any items just to make sure they work and won’t present any additional costs. *please note: I do not mark up any items, my clients all receive any and all trade discounts I am entitled to.
Step Three
Implementation/construction
For renovation projects this is when I maintain regular contact with any trades and contractors to make sure that the design plan is being implemented on budget and on time. This includes frequent site visits and the ability to creatively solve or work around any unforeseen challenges that emerge during the construction process. For decor installations this part of the project entails ordering furniture and coordinating deliveries. Frequently this is the longest part of the project and I am always on call to walk clients through the progress and regularly touch base to give any updates. It’s always good to let me know your expectations for contact at this stage because I am entirely flexible to your needs. Some people prefer to only be notified of major milestones or possible hiccups while others love frequent calls or texts with photos or progress.
Step Four
Enjoy!
Once the design has been fully implemented I get to wish you well and send you off to enjoy your fresh new space! It’s always a bittersweet moment, beautiful to see the project complete but also sad to say goodbye (for now!) as we wrap up our regular chats and texts.
